Because no one should go hungry on Martha’s Vineyard.
The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival is partnering with the Island Food Pantry by holding a Food Drive during the upcoming film festival in Chilmark, March 15 -18.
As Thomas Bena of TMVFF pointed out, “The Film Festival feeds the minds and spirits of those who come, seeking great films and conversation. The Food Pantry feeds the bodies of our neighbors in need.”
Hunger is an unfortunate reality on Martha’s Vineyard. The Island Food Pantry has worked actively since 1981 to ensure food is always available for those in need. It is a 100% volunteer organization that depends on the kindness of all who live on or visit the Island. In 2017, it provided three bags of groceries each to 405 individuals and families, on 2,888 occasions.
Winter can be especially hard for those in need. There are fewer jobs available off-season and fewer people to fill the Food Pantry donation boxes when tourist season is over.
The staff and volunteers from the Film Festival and The Island Food Pantry invite everyone to come and enjoy the 18th annual MV Film Festival and to bring some non-perishable food items to support our neighbors. There will be large purple collection boxes in the Chilmark Community Center and the Chilmark School.

A big shout-out to the BrewHaHa Fermenters. 12 volunteers using 110 lbs. of “gleaners cabbage, 20 lbs. of carrots and juniper berries made sauerkraut at The Larder for the Island Food pantry. Samples were the rage at the Pantry this week . Thanks to Island Grown Initiative, Whipporwill and Morning Glory farms , Island Gleaners, The Larder and Cronigs Market for donating the jars.
